ALLENDALE, Mich. – In the final tune-up before the conference championships, the UIndy swimming and diving teams were outscored by host Grand Valley State Saturday, with the women falling, 170.5-115.5, and the men losing 176-123.. Despite the team scores, a number of Greyhounds notched individual wins, including three from sophomore
Rodrigo Codo Berti.
Â
"Traveling up to GVSU was a great way to prime the team for the heavy competition we'll have at GLVCs," said head coach
Jason Hite. "They overpowered us on the women's side and beat us on depth on the men's side, but I was happy with how we looked in the water and how we raced. They're a legitimate top-tier team in DII swimming and diving, and I feel like we held our own. If a few touches go our way on the men's side, it is much closer.
Â
"We'll clean up what we need to clean up and get rested and ready for conference. I'm excited about what we will do there. "

The Brazilian trio of Berti,
Vitor Botana and
Guilherme Zavaneli led the way for the UIndy men, accounting for seven event wins. Berti amassed a team-best three victories, touching first in the 100 back (50.96), 200 back (1:54.02) and 200 IM (1:54.94), while Botana (500 free, 1000 free) and Zavaneli (50 free, 200 free) each had two wins.

Freshman
Darian Murray added a pair of wins for the Greyhound women, taking both the 200 fly (2:11.49) and the 200 IM (2:16.57). The freshman from Perth, Australia also finished second in the 100 fly behind teammate
Sotia Neophytou (58.28).
Â
Junior
Malvina Shoukri won the 100 free (53.66) while she and Neophytou went two-three in the 50 – both finishing within a quarter second of the winner. The two were joined by juniors
Alexis Dobrzynski and
Laura Bem in the Hounds' 200 free relay win (1:40.73).
Â

Payton Staman (299.10) and
Josh Zylstra (293.50) finished third and fourth, respectively, on the 1-meter, with Zylstra adding a fourth-place showing on the 3-meter (269.70). Freshmen
