Hounds ride big second half to exhibition win versus IUK

INDIANAPOLIS – In its final exhibition tune-up before the regular season, the UIndy women's basketball team defeated visiting IU-Kokomo Monday afternoon in Nicoson Hall, part of the Greyhounds' Midday Madness event. Senior Martha Burse lit up the scoreboard with a game-high 32 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds actually found themselves in a two-point hole at the half, but exploded for 33 points in the third quarter while limiting the Cougars to just nine. Burse led the offensive charge, scoring 11 points of her total in the momentum-swinging frame.

Seniors Devin Ferguson and Ashley Montanez were also big contributors offensively, amassing 15 and 14 points on the day, respectively. Ferguson also contributed six assists, while Montanez had five boards and was an efficient 7-for-10 from the field.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Burse, who also led the team in rebounds (7), assists (7) and steals (5), averaged 25.5 points in the Hounds' two exhibition contests.
- UIndy drastically improved its free throw shooting compared to last week's exhibition at Wright State, connecting on 14 of 18 (.778) attempts versus just 5 of 13 (.385) last week.
- Freshman Taylor Drury, who started both exhibitions, went for nine points, two rebounds and two steals.
- The Greyhound bench contributed 16 points to the effort, including five apiece from Tristan Philpot and Jordan Cole.
- Senior Sarah Costello successfully completed a four-point play in the first quarter.
- The Hounds out-shot IUK 58 percent to 39 percent.

HOUND BYTES
"I think the second half was much, much better than the first," said Head Coach Kristin Wodrich. "We got a lot more ball reversals – ball went in, ball came out. We got a lot better shots that way and we weren't as stagnant."
