ASHLAND, Ohio – The UIndy women's basketball team (3-9) came up on the short end of a 105-66 final at No. 1-ranked Ashland Monday night.
Martha Burse provided the highlight when the senior guard recorded her 1,000th career point in the third quarter.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Just hours after being named the GLVC Player of the Week, Burse added another line to an already impressive playing resume. She now has 1,013 career points to her credit after finishing the night with a game-high 27 points on 10 of 22 shooting.
Â
Nevertheless, the Eagles (12-0) justified their No. 1 ranking with an impressive performance on both ends of the court. With the scored tied at 12 in the early going, Ashland closed out the opening quarter with a 19-6 run to take control.
Â
Trailing by 31 points at the half, the Greyhounds managed to outscore their hosts in the third period, 18-17. Burse knocked down a jumper to start the second-half scoring, with that bucket lifting her career total to quadruple digits.
Â
But the Eagles would shoot nearly 56 percent from the field while forcing 21 turnovers to help maintain and ultimately keep a sizable lead down the stretch.
Â
Three other Hounds would join Burse in double figures, as freshman
Taylor Drury, senior
Devin Ferguson and sophomore
Claire Carlton each finished with 10 points.
