Greyhounds drop overtime effort at Lewis

Box Score ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The UIndy men's basketball team dropped its second straight conference matchup on Thursday night, falling to Lewis, 88-75, in overtime. Eric Davidson was four-for-eight from three-point range and finished with 16 points, while Devin Dixon shot a perfect six-for-six from the field to finish with 16 points.

Jesse Kempson and Alex Etherington led the Greyhounds with four rebounds apiece. Kempson tallied 12 points on the night, while sophomore Tate Hall poured in 11 points.

The loss sends UIndy to 5-3 on the season and 1-2 in GLVC play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds jumped out to 5-0 lead on the heels of a three-pointer by Kempson and the first of 11 first-half points by Dixon. Midway through the half, Etherington, Hall, and Davidson hit three consecutive long balls to grow the Greyhound lead to 18-11 with less than 10 minutes remaining, but the Flyers went on a quick 11-0 run to take their first lead of the game. An Etherington three-pointer followed by a Dixon traditional three-point play kept the momentum in favor of UIndy heading into the half with a 35-28 advantage.

Lewis began the second half in the exact fashion UIndy did the game, scoring the first five points before Dixon swished a free throw to break the stretch. The Flyers took their first lead in 13 minutes with a three-pointer nearly four minutes into the half and the Hounds' deficit grew to seven, forcing a timeout. Davidson drilled his second three-pointer of the second half to get the Hounds within three with two minutes left after being down by as many as nine.

A layup by Kempson with 29 seconds remaining evened the game at 66 apiece, which would force overtime. A three-pointer by the Flyers put the home team up seven over three minutes into the extra session and a dunk with 47 seconds left sealed the victory for Lewis. The Flyers outscored the Greyhounds, 22-9, in the overtime period.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Davidson's four three-pointers on the night increased his season percentage to a 51.2 mark, which ranks second on the team. Trevor Lakes went one-for-three on the evening to better his team-leading mark to 59.3 percent.

The senior also sunk both of his free throws in the loss and is now 24-for-24 on the season, which is tops in the country. Davidson is the all-time leader in UIndy history at the charity stripe at 94.4 percent.

Dixon scored double-digit points for the first time since the opening weekend against Northwood and Saginaw Valley with his 16-point effort. His six made field goals is tied for the most he has made in a contest this season.

The Greyhounds made nine three-pointers on Thursday, one more than the previous two games combined. Prior to its 13-for-45 efforts against Wisconsin-Parkside and Southern Indiana, UIndy went 19-for-22 in its win over Tiffin before Thanksgiving.

UP NEXT
The Hounds will take a break from regular season action and travel to Terre Haute on Saturday afternoon for an exhibition contest against Indiana State in the Hulman Center for a 4 p.m. tip. The Sycamores defeated the Greyhounds, 82-67, back in the 2009-10 preseason.
