Road-weary Hounds return home for 60-42 region win

INDIANAPOLIS – After six of its last seven games away from home, the UIndy women's basketball team (2-8) returned to Nicoson Hall Saturday afternoon to defeat visiting Oakland City (2-5), 60-42. Two Greyhounds recorded double-doubles on the day, including senior Martha Burse and her game-high 24 points and 10 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Already shorthanded due to injury, senior post player Ashley Montanez went down midway through the second quarter in what at the time was a one-point game. The Hounds responded, however, with a 13-5 run to end the half.

UIndy went on to dominate the third quarter as well, earning a 20-point lead heading into the fourth and final period. The Hounds combined to shoot 9 of 19 (.474) from the floor in the third.

In Montanez's absence, freshman Taylor Drury stepped up to produce season highs of 13 points and 10 rebounds, good for her first collegiate double-double. Senior Devin Ferguson also finished in double figures with 11 points.

Meanwhile, Burse wasn't too far from a triple-double, as she added seven steals to her already impressive stat line.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Saturday marked the first time since January 21, 2017 that two Greyhounds recorded double-doubles in the same game (Montanez & Nicole Anderson)
- UIndy forced a whopping 31 turnovers by the Might Oaks – most by a Greyhound opponent since Illinois Springfield's 37 in January of 2010.
- The Hounds' plus-eight rebound advantage was good for a season high.
- Junior Alexa Bailey stuffed the box score with six points, eight boards, four assists and six steals, with the latter good for a career high.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Kristin Wodrich on the high number of OCU turnovers…
"We started off stagnant offensively so I think we just needed to up the energy on our end, and we were able to create a lot of offense from our defense so I was really proud of them for that."

Wodrich on UIndy's rebounding advantage…
"We've been struggling on the boards and to be able to do that, and to have Ashley Montanez go down early and have everyone else pick it up rebounding-wise, is really good for us."

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds are back home Thursday, Dec. 14 when they host Indiana Wesleyan. Tip is set for 6 p.m. ET.
