MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The 16th-ranked UIndy softball team wrapped up its stay in Alabama with a pair of wins against Division II opponents on the final day of the Falcon Frenzy, hosted by the University of Montevallo. The Greyhounds shut out Lee University, 3-0, before cruising to an 8-3 win against Shorter.
Â
UIndy moved to 3-2 after its first weekend of play. The team heads back south next weekend for the Music City Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., Feb. 17-18. The four-game slate will include three in-region contests, including a rematch from last year's NCAA Midwest Regional on Saturday when the Hounds face host Trevecca Nazarene.

Freshman
Crystal Sicard (1-1) emphatically earned her first career pitching win in game one Sunday. The Brookfield, Wis., product tossed a complete-game five-hitter versus Lee, shutting out the Flames while striking out two and walking three. Only one base runner reached third safely, but she was promptly thrown out at the plate trying the score from second on a single by center fielder
Jessie Noone (pictured).
Â
Offensively, the Hounds did most of their damage in the very first inning. UIndy's first two batters –
Dani Turner (walk) and
Katie Kelly (single) – both reached and eventually scored. Turner was plated by an RBI groundout by
Tayler Weck, while Kelly crossed on a
Natalie Lalich single. The game's next and ultimately final tally came in the fourth when catcher
Julia Liceaga scored on a bases-loaded walk by Kelly.
Â
Noone was the lone Greyhound with two hits as she finished 2 for 3 with a single and a double. Freshman
Becky Gibbs earned a pinch-hit single in the fifth, good for her first collegiate base hit.

UIndy 8, Shorter 3
The offense picked up in game two, with the Hounds scoring eight runs with the help of five extra-base hits, including two home runs. Lalich launched her first homer of the season with a two-run shot in the second inning. The blast triggered a four-run surge, as RBIs from Gibbs and Turner followed.
Â
In the sixth, Weck, who scored earlier on Lalich's home run, added a two-run shot of her own, while
Samantha Beckwith capped the scoring with a pinch-hit knock in the seventh that scored
Taylor Podschweit.
Â
Noone added two more doubles to finish the day with four hits and three two-baggers. Turner, Lalich and Podschweit also added two hits in the night cap.
Â
Freshman pitcher Laura Honkomp (2-1) went the distance to earn the win in the circle. She gave up six hits and three walks while fanning two.
