HENDERSONVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 19 UIndy softball team opened the Music City Invitational with a pair of region wins Friday. The Greyhounds (5-2) handed Ohio Dominican a 9-6 defeat in game one and followed with a 6-1 victory against Saginaw Valley in the night cap, extending their win streak to five.

With the score tied at 6-6 through four innings, the Hounds plated the decisive run in the fifth before adding two insurance tallies in the sixth. After drawing a one-out walk in the fifth,
Taylor Podschweit across with the game winner on a throwing error by the Panthers.

The Hounds scored their season-high nine runs in four consecutive innings, starting with the four-run third. The inning started with fifth straight singles, including a two-run knock by
Jessie Noone.

Dani Turner, who finished the game 3 for 4 with two runs and two ribbies, added a two-run homer in the fourth – good for her fourth bomb already on the season.

Freshman
Lauren Honkomp (3-1) earned the pitching win by throwing the final 3 1/3 innings in relief – all scoreless. After starter
Crystal Sicard gave up six runs (four unearned), Honkomp came in and did not surrender a single hit while striking out five.

Honkomp (4-1) picked up another win in the circle by tossing her fourth complete game. She gave up six hits and two walks in seven innings, with her only run allowed coming in unearned fashion in the fourth.

Katie Kelly and
Jessie Noone garnered two hits apiece, accounting for all six of UIndy's hits. Noone blasted a two-run homer in the third, while Kelly went yard with two on in the fifth.
Play at the second-annual Music City Invitational continues tomorrow with two more games scheduled for the Hounds. They'll face Montevallo at 11 a.m. ET, followed by a match-up with host Trevecca Nazarene at 1 p.m. The 10-team event is being at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville, Tenn.
