INDIANAPOLIS – Taking on their fifth and final Division I opponent to start the season, the UIndy women's tennis team pulled out 5-4 win over Bowling Green State on Saturday afternoon inside the UIndy Tennis Center.
Â
In the first ever meeting between the two programs, the Greyhounds (4-1) took advantage of a short-handed Falcons (3-4) team to continue their strong start to the spring season.
Â
UIndy opened things up by taking two-of-three points in doubles play. The No. 1 tandem of
Hanna Volikova and
Florence Renard earned a hard-fought 9-7 win over Paula Comella and Marharita Tavpash.
Â
The Hounds also got a win by default at the No. 3 doubles spot, as the Falcons had only five players competing and had to forfeit the first of two points on the night.
Â
UIndy gained another point with a forfeit in the No. 6 singles spot, putting them two points away from earning the win before any singles matches kicked off.
Â
Selenay Heper moved the Greyhounds within one point of victory with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Emily Witt in the No. 5 singles spot. Renard needed three sets to clinch victory for the Hounds, rallying from down one set to pick up a 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 win over Tavpash in the No. 3 spot.
Â
The spring season rolls on this coming Tuesday when the Hounds welcome DePauw University to the UIndy Tennis Center. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
