QUINCY, Ill. – Senior
Nicole Anderson became the 23rd player in the history of the UIndy women's basketball program to reach the 1,000-point milestone on Saturday afternoon. The Terre Haute, Ind.-native finished with a team-high 20 points, but the Greyhounds were unable to hold a lead late in regulation in an 84-80 loss to Quincy inside the Pepsi Center.

Martha Burse (17 pts),
Devin Ferguson (11 pts) and
Ashley Montanez (10 pts) also reached double figures for the Greyhounds (14-9, 8-5 GLVC), but UIndy struggled to contain a Quincy (5-18, 2-11 GLVC) offense that averaged just 55 points per game coming into Saturday's contest.

The Hawks became the first team to shoot better than 50 percent from the floor against the Hounds this year, knocking down 50.8 percent (31-for-61) of their shots. Quincy rallied from nine points down in the fourth quarter, forcing overtime with just seconds left in regulation and carrying that momentum into the extra session, eventually handing UIndy their third straight defeat.

Needing just one point to reach the milestone, Anderson wasted no time getting to 1,000 points, scoring on the first possession of the game. Quincy would answer with six field goals on their first eight attempts to take a 16-10 lead midway through the first quarter. The Hounds bounced back to tie the game late in the quarter, but a three from Jessica Rabas would put Quincy up 24-21 at the end of one quarter.

The Greyhounds responded with a strong start to the second quarter, ripping off an 11-2 run that made it 32-26 with three minutes to go until the half. When the first half horn sounded, UIndy carried a 37-32 lead into the locker room, holding the Hawks to just eight points in the second quarter.

UIndy maintained their lead throughout the third quarter, stretching it to as many as nine at one point. An Anderson layup with three seconds to go in the period gave the Greyhounds a 54-48 lead heading into the final quarter.

Ferguson knocked down a three to open up the fourth quarter and make it a nine point game once again, but Hawks responded with a 10-0 run to re-take the lead with 5:35 to go in the game.

Quincy held on to their advantage until a three from Burse put the Hounds up 69-68 with 41 seconds to go. Burse added a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game with six second left, but Quincy sent the game to overtime when Lauren Gronewold knocked down a three at the buzzer. Â

The teams exchanged three leads to open the extra session, but Quincy used a 6-0 run to make it 80-75 with one minute to go. UIndy would get within two late, but Quincy was able to close the game out at the line.

UIndy connected on 45.9 percent (28-for-61) of their field goals, going 8-for-23 from long range and 16-for-22 from the line.
Sarah Costello had 11 boards to lead all players, but Quincy ended up with a 38-31 advantage on the glass.

The Greyhounds return home for the next four games, starting next Thursday (Feb. 9) night against the William Jewell Cardinals. Tip-off from Nicoson Hall is set for 5:30 p.m.
