Softball win streak ends at six after Sunday split

CLERMONT, Fla. – The 19th-ranked UIndy softball team endured its first loss in over two weeks Sunday. On day three of the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., the Greyhounds (13-5) extended their winning streak to six with a 3-1 victory against Bemidji State, but later fell, 3-0, to Philadelphia University.

Senior Natalie Lalich continued her power surge, connecting on her fourth home run in five games with a two-run bomb in the third. Jessie Noone's double and an RBI single by Dani Turner started the rally before Lalich connected on a 1-1 pitch and sent it over the left field fence.

Freshman pitcher Lauren Honkomp (10-1) continued her own hot streak, winning her 10th straight decision. The Richmond, Ind., native ran off sixth scoreless innings to start the game before the Beavers (1-2) finally mustered a run with a harmless solo shot in the seventh.

Noone, Turner and Lalich each finished with a pair of hits, while Tayler Weck added a double.

Philadelphia 3, UIndy 0
The Rams of Phila U (1-3) rode a no-hitter from sophomore pitcher Naomi Stas to the win, with Noone's first-inning walk accounting for the only UIndy base runner.

Freshman Crystal Sicard (2-3) took the loss for the Hounds. She struck out four through three scoreless frames until the Rams broke through with all three runs in the fourth.

The Greyhounds take a break from action Monday before returning to the diamond to face both Saint Thomas Aquinas and Concordia-St. Paul on Tuesday.
