Hounds pick up two more wins in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The No. 19 UIndy softball team resumed action at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., Tuesday, earning a pair of wins versus Division II competition. The Greyhounds (15-5) opened the day with a 6-1 victory against Saint Thomas Aquinas, followed by a 6-3 triumph over Concordia-St. Paul. Senior Natalie Lalich finished the day 3 for 4 with two walks and two home runs.

Lalich got things started with a three-run bomb in the first, scoring Katie Kelly and Jessie Noone with her sixth homer of the season. The blast proved more than enough, as freshman starter Crystal Sicard (4-3) eanred the win with six strong innings, striking out a season-best six while allowing just one run. Jaime Rhodes finished the game with a scoreless seventh.

Senior Katie Kelly had a double, a triple and three runs scored while Julia Liceaga added a double and a run.

Lalich again led the Hounds offensively, as the Center Grove High School product did not make an out at the plate in game two. She followed an RBI single in the first inning with her sixth home run in the last eight games, with her solo shot in the third putting the Hounds up 3-1.
 
Freshman Cathy Skaggs scored twice after notching a double and a triple, while Kelly chipped in her third extra-base hit of the day with a sixth-inning double; she also walked twice.
 
Freshman Lauren Honkomp upped her pitching record to a stellar 11-1, working all seven innings while fanning six and walking zero. Only one of her three runs allowed her earned.
 
The Greyhounds wrap up their stay in Florida with two more games at the Spring Games Wednesday. They'll take on Indiana (Pa.) at 10:30 a.m. ET, followed by a meeting with California (Pa.) at 3:30.
