Sixth-ranked Bucs too much for No. 16 UIndy women's tennis

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The 16th-ranked UIndy women's tennis team fell 8-1 against sixth-ranked Barry University Saturday morning at the Buccaneer Tennis Center, finishing their challenging spring break trip in Florida with a 1-2 overall record against some of the nation's best.

Barry, the 2014 NCAA Division II Champions and 2015 runners-up, improved to 15-0 with the win, notching their 11th victory over a nationally-ranked opponent.

UIndy falls to 7-3 for the season, with two losses coming against top-six Division II teams and the other against a Division I opponent (Illinois State).

The Bucs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles, and would go on to win five of the six singles contests in straight sets.

Greyhound junior Stephanie Hirsch picked up UIndy's lone point with a solid 6-3, 6-1 victory against Barry's Verena Schmid in No. 3 singles, marking Schmid's first loss this season. Hirsch improved to 15-4 overall, and has won eight of her last 10 singles bouts.

UIndy returns home to face No. 47 Grand Valley State in a regional matchup Mar. 25 before beginning Great Lakes Valley Conference action the following day at McKendree.
