INDIANAPOLIS – Winners of eight in a row, the 20th-ranked UIndy softball team sent Missouri S&T away with a pair of losses Sunday, downing the visiting Lady Miners (8-15, 0-2 GLVC) by scores of 4-2 and 10-0. The Greyhounds (21-5, 4-0) have now won 14 of their last 15 contests.

With the score knotted at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth, junior catcher
Julia Liceaga connected for what proved to be the game winner, driving the very first pitch of the half inning over the center field fence for her third home run of the season.

Two insurance runs followed in the fifth, when
Taylor Podschweit belted an opposite-field blast to score herself and
Tayler Weck to up the lead to 4-1.

Liceaga added a sixth-inning single to finish as the only Hound with more than one hit on the game, while
Dani Turner garnered a single and two walks.

Meanwhile, freshman pitcher
Lauren Honkomp (14-1) continued her impressive win streak, earning her 14th consecutive winning decision with an eight-hit, three-strikeout complete game. The Richmond, Ind., native has not lost a game since the season opener back on February 10.

UIndy 10, Miners 0
UIndy needed just five innings to put S&T away in game two, scoring three runs in the third and seven in the fourth to invoke the run rule.

Katie Kelly (walk) and
Jessie Noone (double) started the rally in the third, with a
Natalie Lalich moon shot clearing the bases and giving the Hounds the lead.

Things got out of hand for the Miners in the fourth when the Greyhounds batted around, racking up five hits and two HBPs in the frame. The action included the first collegiate hit for
Summer Collins, who reached on a bunt single and eventually came around to score.

Rookie pitchers
Crystal Sicard (7-3) and
Jaime Rhodes combined for the shutout. Sicard tossed four scoreless frames to earn the win, while Rhodes got the final three outs – two via strikeout – to end the game.

UIndy wraps up its six-game homestand when it hosts a doubleheader versus non-conference-but-in-region Ohio Dominican Wednesday at 2 p.m.
