INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 10 UIndy softball team (23-5) used some great pitching from a pair of freshman starters to subject Ohio Dominican to a doubleheader sweep Wednesday, topping the visiting Panthers by scores of 4-1 and 6-0. The game-one victory also marked a major milestone for Head Coach
Melissa Frost, who picked up her 500th win at the school.

Already the winningest coach in program history, Frost earned the benchmark "W" behind the arm of freshman
Lauren Honkomp (15-1). On her way to her 15th straight winning decision, the Richmond, Ind., product mowed down 13 Panther hitters via the strikeout, including striking out the side in the fourth, to set a new career high in the stat. She scattered eight hits and walked only one batter, with a fifth-inning run being the only tally she would surrender.
Â
Offensively, the Hounds scored all their runs in the third.
Tayler Weck,
Taylor Podschweit and
Cathy Skaggs earned back-to-back-to-back RBI singles after
Katie Kelly scored an error.
Â
Honkomp and
Dani Turner both finished 2 for 3 at the plate.

Not to be outdone, freshman pitcher
Crystal Sicard had her best outing as a collegian, spinning a two-hit shutout versus the in-region Panthers. A native of Brookfield, Wis., Sicard retired the first 10 batters she faced before surrendering two ultimately-harmless hits and getting the final 11 hitters in order. She struck out six and walked none to up her record to 8-3 on the year.
Â
The Greyhounds staked Sicard to a 2-0 lead before she entered the circle and tacked on three more scores in the second. With the wind blowing in most of the afternoon, UIndy did all that damage without the benefit of an extra-base hit, combining for seven singles and two stolen bases in the first two innings alone.
Â
After having an eight-game hit streak snapped in game one,
Jessie Noone rebounded with a 3-for-4 performance and two steals in the capper. Turner collected her second straight two-hit game, while freshman
Lora Barton garnered her first collegiate hit with a base knock to right field in the sixth.
Â
The Hounds start an eight-game road swing this weekend, starting with a doubleheader at William Jewell College Saturday, March 25.
