The Hounds endured their third shutout loss in the last four games as the Bearcats (25-18, 11-9) kept their hosts off the board behind a solid performance from senior starter Holly Magre (12-7). Though she surrendered four walks, the veteran hurler allowed just two hits in the complete-game effort to pick up win No. 12 on the year.
Â
Meanwhile, her counterpart,
Lauren Honkomp, held the Bearcats scoreless through 4 2/3 innings before a two-out single in the fifth plated the game's first run. McKendree would tack on four insurance tallies seventh, moving Honkomp's record to 20-6. She fanned eight and walked three while giving up 10 hits, matching her highest total allowed this season.

The Bearcats again struck first with a solo homer from Brooke Gajewski in the fourth, but the Hounds answered with a two-spot in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead. Getting the start at shortstop, freshman Laura Barton led off the frame with a double, prompting a pitching change. Sophomore Maci Ingram came on and retired to next two Hounds, but senior
Dani Turner delivered a pinch hit double to knot it at 1-1. Kelly followed with what proved to be the game-winning hit – a soft liner that found the left field grass.
Â
The freshman pitching duo of
Crystal Sicard (10-6) and Honkomp combined for a solid seven innings in the circle. Sicard got the start and ultimately the win, scattering seven hits and allowing just one run in 5 1/3 innings of work. Honkomp came on in the sixth to face a one-out, bases-loaded situation before slamming the door with a strikeout and a harmless come-backer. She went on to retire the Bearcats in order in the seventh to garner her second career save.
