Nils Hoffacker crowned winner at ITA Regional

Day Three – Semi-finals and championship rounds
 
Sunday in the A singles bracket was all Greyhounds. Nils Hoffacker, Christoph Drechsler, Dario Huber and Magnus Mueller were set to face off against each other to determine who the champion would be. 
 
Huber and Hoffacker faced off, where Hoffacker pulled through with a 6-2, 6-2 win to send himself to the finals for a chance to head to ITA Nationals.
 
On the other side of the bracket was Drechsler and Mueller. The two had an extended first set, but the result was in Drechsler's favor with a 7-6(7) win, which was then followed with a 6-4 set win.
 
Hoffacker and Drechsler faced off for the trip to the ITA Oracle Cup. Hoffacker defeated Drechsler 6-0, 6-0 to earn himself the trip.
 
The Oracle Cup will take place in Rome, Ga. on Oct. 13-16. 

Day One and Two

The men's tennis team is two days into a three-day tournament in Allendale, Mich. The ITA Midwest Regional Tournament began on Friday Sept. 15 and will go through Sunday, Sept. 17.
 
The Hounds have dominated the singles play, having stacked the semi-final matches with Greyhounds. Nils Hoffacker and Dario Huber will be facing off against each other, while Christoph Drechsler and Magnus Mueller will compete. The championship match-up is set for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 17.
 
Leading up to a stacked semi-final, Huber defeated Walsh's Clemens Wagner 6-0, 6-1. He then went on to defeat Southern Indiana's Yahor Bahdanovich 6-0, 6-4. His last wins came over Mats Westkamp from Wayne State and Nico Hadeler from Drury. Huber fought through the match against Westkampe and earned the 7-5, 6-2 win. Huber and Hadeler's match went to three sets, and finished 7-6(7), 1-6, (4).
 
Hoffacker blew through his four matches with wins in two sets each time. JP van Antwerpen from Davenport was Hoffacker's first opponent who was defeated 6-2, 6-0. Up next, was Tiffin's Tom Arias who was defeated 6-1, 6-4. Hoffacker then topped Augustin Diot from Drury 6-1, 6-2. His 6-1, 6-1 victory over Grand Valley's Jack Geissler was what sent him to the semi-finals.
 
Drechsler had to put up a bit of a fight in some of his matches, but he pulled through with four wins. The Hound's first victory, 6-1, 4-6, (10) was over Austin DeBruyne of Ferris State. He was then pushed a bit extra in his second match of the day against Northwood's David Reinauer, which ended 7-6(8), 6-0. He followed that up with a 6-3, 6-4 victory, and a 6-3, 7-6(2) victory to send him to the semi-finals.
 
Rounding out the semi-final play is Mueller. Mueller's 6-1, 6-3 success over Mathis Guerre from Ferris State opened his tournament play. Niklas Kracz was Mueller's next victim who fell 6-3, 6-2 to the Greyhound. Mueller followed that up with a 3-6, 6-3, (4) win. His final win of the day was over Formentov from Northwood. Mueller pushed through to win 7-5, 6-1 to join the rest of the Hounds in the semi-finals.
 
In the doubles bracket, Andy Morlet and Mueller paired up and won their first match of the tournament 8-5. Kostadinov and Huber competed as well, winning their first match 9-8(5), and their next match 8-4.
 
The four Greyhounds will compete in the semi-finals tomorrow beginning at 8:15 a.m. The ITA Oracle Cup will take place Oct. 13-16 in Rome, Ga.
