INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy women's basketball team (6-12, 3-5 GLVC) put together perhaps its best game of the season Thursday night, downing a talented Truman State University team, 79-63, at Nicoson Hall. The Greyhounds led the entire second half, thanks in part to a big 29-point third quarter.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs (10-5, 5-3), who came into the game fourth in the GLVC standings, used an early 12-2 run that to build a 16-9 edge, but the Hounds came clawing back with an 11-0 run of their own to regain the lead. UIndy stayed in front the remainder of the first half, aided by a solid performance from veteran guard
Sarah Costello. The senior from Downers Grove, Ill., reached a season high in the first 20 minutes alone, leading all scorers with 13 points at the break.
Â
The Hounds kept the momentum rolling in the third quarter, as a three-ball from
Devin Ferguson pushed the margin to double-digits. The lead would not dip below seven the rest of the way, as UIndy shot 54 percent from the floor in the second half to keep the Bulldogs at arm's length.
Â
UIndy's 79 points represented a season high. Individually, four Greyhounds finished in double figures, led by
Martha Burse's 28-point output. Burse scored 22 of her points in the second half and finished 10 of 19 (.526) from the floor on the night.
Â
Costello amassed 17 points in 22 minutes of play. Junior
Alexa Bailey compiled 12 points and eight rebounds, while senior
Devin Ferguson had 11 points and six assists.

HOUND BYTES
Head Coach Kristin Wodrich on her team's performance…
"I think we took good shots today. We reversed the ball really well and we picked our spots much better tonight; a lot of inside-outside game. And when you do that you just get in a better rhythm, and I thought that we did that tonight.
"We missed some shots early but I really liked our kids' effort and our fight tonight, and when you play hard, it just makes the coach proud."
