Divers Break Records as Hounds Compete in Toledo

TOLEDO, OH – Following a highly successful fall break trip in North Carolina, the Greyhound swimming and diving teams packed the bus and traveled to Toledo, Ohio. In the Toledo Student Recreation Center, the men faced off in a dual-meet versus Findlay, while the women raced against both Findlay and Division-! Toledo. Two records were broken during the meet, both on the boards; Cassie Kury took down her own record in the 1-meter, and Josh Zylstra (again) replaced his own 3-meter record. The women ended the day with a loss against Toledo, 152-85, and a win versus Findlay, 127-110. The men ended the meet against Findlay with another win on the season, this time on a score of 201-40.

"It was a tough meet for us," said Head Coach Jason Hite, "Our distance women look good, but it wasn't our best showing. It started out rough on the boards also, but it ended very well. We had some off-swims that were impressive (Rosipal and Oancea's 400 IM, Zavaneli's 500 free), and hopefully next year we'll get another shot to show them what we can do."

The men had an emphatic performance, winning every single event in the meet. It didn't stop there, as there were several more second-, third- and even fourth-place finishes to go around. The men kicked off the meet in terrific fashion, going 1-2-3 in the 200 medley relay. The team of Jake Braumbaugh, Jan Zuchowicz, Ante Lucev and Chris Gurski pulled the victory.

Laura Boardman secured the only women's swimming victory of the night, as she sealed the deal in her time of 10:25.59 in the 1000 free. The men continued to have 1-2-3 races, as Zuchowicz took another first-place finish in the men's 100 breast. Antonio Milin and Lucian Conner followed suit. The final race also proved to be a close one, as three Greyhounds relays placed in the top three in the 200 free relay. Victor Antonon, Vitor Botana, Braumbaugh and Brady Stabler were on the winning relay team.

On the 1-meter boards, Kury continued an excellent sophomore season with a score of 274 points overall in the event. The men had four divers competing in the meet, and all placed in the top four. Zylstra came out on top in that event, scoring 290.65 points. The men had similar success on the 3-meter, where Zylstra took the crown at 346.65 points, Payton Staman placed second at 307.35 points, and freshman Ben Radar finished third at 292.95 points.
