Kruzan totals 23 kills in Hounds' win at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. – A balanced effort for the UIndy volleyball team (17-9, 10-3 GLVC) led to a four-set victory at McKendree (14-12, 8-6 GLVC) on Friday evening, but it was Julia Kruzan that lit the court on fire, totaling 23 kills on .500 hitting. The 23 terminations is a career high for the junior.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Greyhounds grabbed the first set after attacking at a .432 clip, totaling 18 kills as a team to just two errors. Kruzan tallied eight kills in the frame, while Taylor Jacquay recorded four.

After dropping the second game, the Hounds rebounded in the third with a four-point run near the end to put it away. Alyssa Spears had 17 of her match-best 52 dimes in the set, with three going to Katie Furlong

The Hounds opened a huge lead in the fourth and ultimate final set, earning eight of nine rallies after trailing 4-0. UIndy led 17-9, but fought off a late rally by McKendree that ended with Spears' third service ace of the night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kruzan's 23 kills is the first time as a Greyhound the junior has recorded at least 20. Her .500 hitting in the win is her second-highest total this season, as she attacked at a .529 clip with 10 kills against Malone.

Furlong remained a constant stroke in the UIndy offense, hitting .265 with 13 kills. The sophomore also picked up 14 digs.

Middles Emily Ellis and Katie Voelz combined for 14 kills on Friday, including three blocks between them.

The Hounds now improve to 7-2 this season after losses. Four of those victories have come on the road.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will travel to Illinois Springfield tomorrow afternoon for a 4 p.m. contest. The Prairie Stars were in first place in the GLVC entering play on Friday.
