LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The UIndy volleyball team (11-7, 6-3 GLVC) continued its road woes on Friday evening, being swept at the hands of Bellarmine (11-8, 5-6 GLVC). The Hounds defeated the Knights in four sets back on September 15 in Ruth Lilly Fitness Center.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Knights hit .357 in the opening frame, while holding the Greyhounds to a mere -.030.
Emily Ellis recorded four of her team-high kills in the first set, along with one of her two solo blocks.Â
UIndy grabbed the first two points of the second set before eventually Bellarmine growing the visiting deficit to 2-0. Four Hounds tacked on two kills to their stat lines, while
Lauren Koopman entered the match and had a kill immediately. The Knights attacked at a .385 clip in the second game.Â
The Hounds made three stops in the third set, with
Katie Furlong adding a solo block. Ellis was in on an assist block to lead the Greyhounds with two on the evening, while
Olivia Martin scooped up six digs in the third after totaling six in the first two frames.Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Ellis hit .462 in the loss, her highest attack percentage with at least eight kills on season. The Concord transfer paces the UIndy defense with 42 blocks this season, and is one behind Furlong for the team-high in solo stops.Â
Alyssa Spears dished out 23 assists on the team's 24 kills on Friday, while picking up seven digs. Spears' dig total ranked second on the team behind Martin.Â
Jena Davis and Spears combined for four service aces against the Knights. The Hounds' total of four comes after not recording one at Wheeling Jesuit this past Wednesday, and the second-best mark the team has had since September 14 against Southern Indiana.Â
UP NEXT
The Greyhounds head to Evansville, Ind. tomorrow afternoon for a battle with Southern Indiana. In the team's first meeting on September 14, UIndy handled the Screaming Eagles in three sets. Matchups for next weekend's Midwest Region Crossover will be announced tomorrow evening.Â
