After winning its first two games of the season, the UIndy men's basketball will host Elmhurst College at Nicoson Hall on Wednesday before traveling back up to Michigan for a region battle with Grand Valley State.
BIRDS IN THE DOG HOUSE
Part of NCAA Division III, Elmhurst College opens its 2018-19 season against the Greyhounds. Wednesday's contest will serve as an exhibition for the Bluejays, while it will count toward UIndy's regular season record. It is the first time the Hounds and Jays will square off since
Stan Gouard has been at the helm of the UIndy program.
The Bluejays finished last season 13-12 after losing six of their last eight games. Elmhurst returns its top-five scorers from a year ago, including All-CCIW second-teamer Jeremy Ireland. The Berwyn, Ill. native averaged 14.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game as a junior, Jake Rhode contributed 13.3 points and 5.1 assists each contest.

TEN YEARS IN THE MAKING
UIndy and Grand Valley State will battle on Sunday for the first time since November 29, 2008, when the Lakers downed the Hounds, 79-55. Grand Valley holds the all-time advantage over UIndy, 5-2. The last time the Greyhounds topped the Lakers was December 30, 2004 at Nicoson Hall.
The Lakers handled a pair of Great Midwest teams this past weekend in Alderson Broaddus and Davis & Elkins in Elkins, W. Va., averaging a 20-point margin in the victories.The Lakers will host Tiffin on Friday evening before welcoming UIndy to GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.
Grand Valley returns three of its top four point-getters, including Second-Team All-GLIAC guard Hunter Hale. The Division I transfer out of Central Michigan has poured in 16 points per game thus far in 28.5 minutes of action, while Jake Van Tubbergen is pacing the Lakers with 17.5 points per contest. Isaiah Brock and Justin Greason are combining for 12 boards per game in the Lakers' two wins.

LAST WEEKEND
The Greyhounds began the season with a victory against Northwood last Friday night, 71-59. UIndy led by as many as 21 late in the second half before holding off a Timberwolves run to avenge last season's loss. The Hounds grabbed 39 boards on the defensive end, the highest total the team has recorded since at least 2003.
The next night, UIndy trailed host Saginaw Valley State by just two at the break before a key three-point shot by
Trevor Lakes and free throws by
Jimmy King sealed the win. The Greyhounds committed just five turnovers in the win, while assisting on 18 of 32 made field goals.
UIndy is now 7-1 all-time against both Northwood and Saginaw Valley State.
KING OF THE HILL
Jimmy King returned to regular season action for the first time in 19 months for UIndy to average 20.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in two wins last weekend. The Indianapolis native tallied a career-high 23 points and 11 assists in the 85-82 victory over SVSU on Saturday, and shot nearly 54 percent from the floor in both games.
THE DASH
Jordache Mavunga made his presence known in his debut for the Hounds, averaging a double-double last weekend with 12 points and 10.5 rebounds in two wins. The Brownsburg native also snagged three steals over the weekend, matching
Jimmy King for the team lead in the category. Mavunga knocked down half of his three-point attempts, sinking five of 10 from deep
PERFECT START IN FOUR SEASONS
Beginning the 2018-19 campaign with two wins on opening weekend marks the first time UIndy has done so since 2014-15. That Greyhound squad began the season 17-0 and was awarded its first No. 1 ranking in program history.
HOMEGROWN HOUNDS
UIndy has seven players from the Indianapolis area, including three from within the city limits:
CJ Hardaway (Warren Central),
Jesse Kempson (Heritage Christian), and
Jimmy King (Roncali). Hardaway and Kempson are two leading returners for the Greyhounds this season, combining for 20.9 points, 9.7 boards, and 3.4 assists per game a year ago. King returns for his redshirt-junior campaign after taking a medical redshirt last season.
NEWCOMERS
UIndy has some key faces joining the program, including four transfers and three freshmen. From Brownsburg,
Jordache Mavunga returns to the Indianapolis area for his junior campaign as a Hound, while Parkland Community teammate
Marcus Latham joins him.
Radwan Bakkali and
Tye Wilburn transfer to UIndy for their senior seasons, coming from NCAA Division I Jacksonville and Wright State, respectively. Each saw minutes as a junior, with Wilburn seeing the court in Wright State's NCAA tournament first-round to Tennessee.
Jaylin Chinn,
Jacob Polakovich, and
Gunner Wilder enter their rookie campaigns after having outstanding prep careers.
Chinn nearly scored 1,100 points in high school for Bosse in Evansville, which advanced to the state final game twice during his time. He was also named the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude award winner at the 2018 final.
Polakovich was an all-state performer in Michigan his final two seasons at Grand Rapids Catholic Central, as he averaged a double-double over those years (15 points, 11 rebounds). Polakovich is GRCC's all-time leading rebounder with 735 boards.
Wilder was named conference player of the year each of his junior and senior seasons, and was named to the all-state squad after averaging more than 26 points last year. The Cameron, Wisc. native sunk 83.2 percent of his free-throw attempts and over 40 percent from long range.
MILESTONE WATCH
Head coach
Stan Gouard needs 13 wins to reach 200 career victories, all with the Greyhounds. Under Gouard, UIndy has recorded at least 16 victories each of the past eight seasons.
This marks Gouard's 11th season on the Greyhound bench, making him the third-longest-tenured coach in program history. Harry Good mentored for 15 seasons, while Angus Nicoson coached the Hounds for over 29 years.
