INDIANAPOLIS – With House of Champions right around the corner, the Greyhound swimming and diving teams took on a two-day meet versus several GLVC opponents. After competing this past Friday and Saturday, the Greyhounds emerged victorious against all foes. The GLVC teams in the invite included McKendree (men ranked #19), Bellarmine, and Lewis. Overall, twenty-two different Greyhounds emerged victorious fifty times over the two-day period.
One of the top performances of the weekend was owned by sophomore diver
Cassie Kury. She highlighted Friday night with re-breaking her own one-meter, six-dive record (again) on an outstanding performance of 284.17 points to win the event. Two different divers on the men's side broke the one-meter, six-dive record as well, as
Payton Staman (340.27 points) and
Josh Zylstra (351.9 points) battled it out the entire way. Zylstra came out on top for the new UIndy team record.
Some other highlights of the weekend included some excellent swims from sophomore
Krystal Caylor, as she won six events on the night, a team high. Her most impressive wins came through the 100 (:59.68) and 200 (2:07.82) IM races, as she prevailed over her second place opponent in the 200 IM by over three seconds.
Senior
Rodrigo Codo Berti also won a handful of races (five to be exact), including a thrilling performance in the 200 backstroke. The time of 1:51.33 emerged as another victory for the 2018 UIndy Male Athlete of the Year, two and a half seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Sophomore
Adam Rosipal dominated his races over the last two days, dropping a 9:23.62 victory in the 1000 free, a two second season-best time drop from his race against Cincinnati.
Some of the more impressive Greyhound races included the women's 200 back, where they occupied the first four spots in the event. That race was led by
Edda Skoric, touching at a 2:04.49 time. On Friday, the men also had a similar race in the 100 breastroke.
Jan Zuchowicz took another win on the season in the event, and his Greyhound teammates took care of the next three spots.
