EAST PEORIA, Ill. – The UIndy volleyball team (19-12) fell victim to No. 25 Rockhurst (28-6) in the opening round of the 2018 GLVC Championship Tournament on Thursday evening, being swept at the hands of the fourth-seeded Hawks.
 
Thursday marked the Hounds' 19th straight appearance in the league postseason tournament.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Julia Kruzan led the team with four kills in the first set as the Greyhounds attacked at a .270 clip, but the high-powered Rockhurst offense hit .400 to win, 25-19.
 
UIndy led 10-6 early to force a Rockhurst timeout in the second, but the Hawks rattled off 12 of the next 12 points to take control of the set. Lauren Koopman recorded four kills for the Hounds, while recording her one solo block of the match.
 
Katie Furlong came alive in the third set, tallying seven kills and four digs, but UIndy dug itself too big of a hole to climb out of as Rockhurst completed the sweep.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kruzan paced UIndy with 12 kills on .550 hitting, while chipping in on two blocks. The junior is now averaging 2.75 kills/set and a .248 hitting percentage.
 
Needing 15 kills to take sole possession of the top spot in the program record book as a sophomore, Furlong finished with 11 and now has an even 500 terminations on the season. The second-year player currently ranks second, tied with Shaun McAllister.
 
Second-team All-GLVC setter Alyssa Spears dished out 35 assists in the loss, the fourth time this season the junior has recorded that many helpers. The Greyhounds are 2-2 when Spears recorded 35 assists, all three-set matches.
 
Olivia Martin finished with 16 digs and pads her cushion in second place in the program record book in scoops by a sophomore. The Fort Wayne native sits at 651 digs on the season, 86 from Kyleigh Turner's single-season record of 737.
