INDIANAPOLIS – After the conclusion of a tough finals week, the Greyhounds kicked off the end of the fall semester with a pair of dual meets. The meet resulted in 29 different Greyhounds securing victories; 13 for the women, and 16 for the men. On Friday, the women faced off against Indiana Wesleyan in a 195-33 victory over the Wildcats, while the men shut down the Wabash Little Giants on a final score of 193-49.
The meet kicked off with a pair of wins in the 200 medley relays. The women came in at a 1:49.83 on the team of
Izzi Clark,
Darian Murray,
Kirsten Votava, and
Stefanie Haholiades. The squad of
Ante Lucev,
Jan Zuchowicz,
Antonio Milin, and
Kyle Massengale raced into the finish on their 1:34.29 time to come out on top for the men. The Greyhounds answered with another pair of wins in the 1000 Free, as
Katie Thomas (10:44.72) touched first for the women, and
Cody Liske grinding down to a 9:54.83 on his own victory on the men's side.
The divers stole the show on all four events on the boards, as
Cassie Kury continued her strong sophomore campaign with victories on both the one and three-meter boards. Kury scored a point total of 224.18 on the one-meter, and tallied 198.68 points overall on the three-meter. Ben Radar emerged as a winner in the men's one-meter, where he resulted in 278.25 points in the event.
Payton Staman was the leader after the set of dives were completed in the three-meter board, as he brought together 307.5 points for the Greyhounds.
The men secured the top three spots in the 200 free, as the winning time of 1:42.2 came from Indy's
Rodrigo Codo Berti.
Laura Boardman and several other Greyhounds brought their own magic for the women, as Boardman's 1:56.74 put her at the top of the final standings. Votava brought home her second win of the day in the women's 50 free, as her :24.95 time squeaked by for a thrilling first place finish. The men brought home the 50 free in terrific fashion as well, as Zuchowicz was able to bring another win for the team on a :21.35.
The 200 IM proved to be just as exciting, as the men's race was battled by usual-freestylers Christopher Gurski,
Adam Rosipal, and
Guilherme Zavaneli. The trio duked it out and resulted in Zavaneli on top, as his breastroke leg separated himself from the pact to finish on a 1:52.86.
Danielle Wood brought home a strong race in the women's event, as her 30:65 freestyle split gave her the edge on her victorious 2:11.96 time. Victor Antonon added himself on the stack of Greyhound wins next, where he cruised to the wall in the men's 100 fly in :51.08 seconds.
The freshman trio of
Maddisen Lantz and
Kael Yorke were the next to step up and win. Lantz's 100 free for the women resulted in a :53.84 time, as Yorke's :47.16 in the men's event provided a thrilling victory to add on the night's list.
Krystal Caylor was the lone woman in the 100 backstroke to finish under a minute, as her :58.29 victory provided a boost of points for the Greyhounds. Zavaneli stepped into the water for the men's 100 back and provided another victory, as his time of :51.74 was quick enough to be on top.
The sophomore duo of
Laura Boardman and
Adam Rosipal took on the 500 free for the Greyhounds, and both emerged victorious in the event as well. Boardman slammed home a 5:08.82 for the women, as Rospial brought an emphatic 4:48.02 finish to solidify another win. The 100 breastroke rounded out the individual events with another pair of wins, as
Edda Skoric brought a solid time of 1:08.08 for the women, and
Rodrigo Codo Berti was able to finish at a :57.17 to claim another solid victory.
The relays concluded the meet with victories on both sides yet again. Clark,
Veeanna Edwards, Haholiades, and
Alaina Joyce took out the women's 200 free relay well and finished on a dominant 1:39.44 time. The team of Zavaneli, Gurski,
Anthony Williamson, and Massengale combined on a 1:27.07 time to finish strong on the final victory of the night for the Greyhounds.
The Greyhound swimming and diving teams will look to have an excellent winter break focused on their final preparations for the championship season. The student-athletes will have the opportunity to travel to Honolulu, Hawaii to spend several days training, and they'll have a meet on Tuesday, January 8
th. The meet will be a tri-meet versus GLVC-rival Drury and soon-to-be GLVC-opponent Lindenwood. A complete list of winners from Friday can be located below:
