LAS VEGAS - The UIndy men's basketball team (6-3) led the Pittsburg State Gorillas (8-1) at halftime on Monday evening at the Las Vegas Hoopla, but the Greyhounds got stuck in a rut in the second half before falling, 89-76. It was the first meeting between UIndy and Pittsburg State in the programs' history.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds fell behind by double figures early in the opening 10 minutes, but responded well with a 29-15 run to end the half.
Marcus Latham and
Tye Wilburn combined for 11 points to spark the offense, with
Jesse Kempson providing 14 tallies and five rebounds.
Pittsburg State shot 53 percent in the second half, while limiting the Greyhound offense to just 38.7 percent shooting. UIndy shot better from three-point range, drilling four-of-nine attempts, but the Gorillas shot nearly 53 percent from the field and totaled 16 second-chance points compared to the Greyhounds' one.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Kempson posted the third double-double of his senior season, finishing with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Indianapolis native also dished out a season-best four assists and recorded two blocks on the defensive end.
In his first game back since injury,
Trevor Lakes tallied 13 points on four-of-nine shooting, including a trio of three-pointers.
Jimmy King recorded a game-high nine helpers, while also matching Kempson with three steals. The junior totaled 15 points, the sixth time this season he has reached double figures.
