Offense not enough in Hounds' loss to Ichabods

LAS VEGAS - The UIndy men's basketball team (6-4) held a halftime lead for the second straight night at the 2018 Las Vegas Hoopla, but faltered in the final 20 minutes to lose to Washburn, 97-81. The Ichabods shot over 55 percent from the field on Tuesday evening and forced 14 Greyhound turnovers to pull away in the second half.

After beginning 6-0 this season, the Hounds have dropped its last four contests.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy and Washburn went back and forth in the first half, exchanging the lead 13 times, including four tie scores. The Greyhounds rebounded nearly twice as many missed shots as the Ichabods - including eight on the offensive end - but could only come away with three second-chance points. Jordache Mavunga entered double-double watch early in the game, entering the locker room with 12 points and nine rebounds in the first half.

The Hounds limited the Ichabods' scoring runs in the second half, but could not overcome a pair of flagrant fouls and a 34.5 field-goal percentage. Washburn led for 14 of the final 20 minutes, with its bench providing 20 of the team's 49 points. Mavunga finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while CJ Hardaway led the team in scoring with 17 tallies. Five Hounds finished in double figure in the loss.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The double-double by Mavunga is his fourth this season, which also marks a season-high 13 boards. The junior transfer has been a consistent player on the defensive end, averaging 7.6 rebounds per game and nearly 1.0 blocks per contest. Of Mavunga's 13 rebounds against Washburn, seven were on the offensive end.

Hardaway also upped his scoring average on Tuesday with his eighth game in double figures, finishing with 17 points. The senior is now pouring in 14.3 points per game, while also ranking third on the team in rebounding.

Marcus Latham chipped in six points off the bench against the Ichabods, sinking a pair of free throws to go with two field goals. The junior also grabbed one rebound and recorded one assist.

Trevor Lakes finished with a game-high four three-pointers, but shot under 31 percent from beyond the arc in the loss. The sophomore has now scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, since his return last night against Pittsburg State.
