Swimming & Diving embarks on training trip to Hawaii

INDIANAPOLIS – The nationally-ranked UIndy swimming & diving teams are shipping off to Hawaii for their annual training trip this week. The 15-day trip kicks off Friday morning, with the Greyhounds not returning until the morning of Jan. 12.

With men ranked No. 1 in Division II and the women ranked fourth, the Greyhounds will be training primarily at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu. Sprinkled in with daily workouts will be sightseeing opportunities as well as a non-traditional meet versus GLVC-rival Drury University and future-conference-foe Lindenwood University on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

"We use this trip to get us ready for the spring semester, specifically the GLVC Championships in February and of course the NCAA Championships in March," said Head Coach Jason Hite. "To that end, we'll be conducting some pretty intense workouts most every day. But we'll also get in a little beach time on Waikiki; we'll visit Pearl Harbor, so we'll be mixing in a little bit of play with a lot of work. Plus the team bonding that these trips usually produce is a big plus as well."

We will have continued coverage of the Hounds' trip to Hawaii, as Sports Info Assistant Jake Renie made the trip with the team. Look for regular blog posts right here on UIndyAthletics.com. Also, see more Hawaii coverage on Instagram as the teams will be taking over the @UIndyAthletics story.
