INDIANAPOLIS - The UIndy men's tennis team won its fourth match of the spring on Saturday, defeating Division-I Youngstown State, 6-1. The Greyhounds swept the doubles matches, while winning five of the six singles competitions.
Renato Lima and
Dario Huber earned a win in number-one doubles, defeating the Penguins' duo of Matthew Kritzinger and Vasilis Vadakis, 6-4. The Greyhound pairing of
Nils Hoffacker and
Matej Kostadinov also earned a 6-4 victory, downing Yossi Dahan and Danylo Veremeichuk. UIndy's
Magnus Mueller and
Christoph Drechsler cruised to a doubles win to complete the Greyhound sweep, dropping Joao Garretto and Bassem El Makewi in eight sets.
Singles competition proved similar to the doubles contests, as the Hounds won five of the six match-ups. Ranked fifth in NCAA Division II, Hoffacker knocked off Garretto, winning 6-2 each set, finishing just after
Magnus Mueller knocked off his opponent in straight sets (6-2, 6-2).
A pair of five-setters helped the Hounds earn the overall victory over the Penguins, as Lima and Huber won nail-biters in three sets. Lima defeated Vadakis, bookending the victory (7-5, 3-6, 6-3), to follow Huber's triumph over Veremeichuk in three sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-1).
Matteo Videau won his number-six singles match, defeating Jonas Ken Suzuki in consecutive sets (6-1, 6-4). Drechsler fought hard in the five-singles match, but ultimately fell in straight sets (6-7 (6), 2-6).
UIndy is now 4-1 on the season thus far with the only loss coming to Butler this past Thursday. The Hounds welcome William Jewell to the UIndy Tennis Center next Saturday, February 17, with doubles play beginning at 9 a.m.
