BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The UIndy baseball team (1-1) rallied back on Sunday afternoon to earn a win in the middle game of the three-setter against Kentucky Wesleyan (2-2), 9-7.
Macy Holdsworth and
Nick Miller homered in the eighth and ninth inning, respectively, to set the stage for
Dylan Stutsman, who tied the UIndy program record for saves with his first of the season, and 26th of his career.
After reaching on an error to begin the game,
Storm Joop came around to score on a wild pitch two batters later. Miller singled home Holdsworth not long after to give the Greyhounds the early two-run advantage. Southpaw
Tyler Hosto allowed four runs in the first two innings, including three unearned tallies. The Panthers scored another pair of runs in the fourth frame to lead 6-3, but
Adam Vasil and
Joe Kenney kept the Greyhounds in it with run-scoring singles.
Joop scored after tripling in the sixth to give Hosto the chance to earn the win, but
Jon Crawford allowed the inherited runner to score in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at 7-7. Crawford induced a double play to avoid damage in the seventh, and the Greyhounds promptly rewarded their pitcher with homers in consecutive innings to build a two-run lead. Stutsman closer bounced around trouble in the ninth, but struck out a pair of Panthers before finishing the game with his first save of the season.Â
Holdsworth and Miller each had three hits in the win, with the former also scoring three times. Crawford earned the win with his five-out performance.Â
