Hounds drop final road game at Bellarmine

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The UIndy women's basketball team (8-19, 5-12 GLVC) traveled to Bellarmine University Thursday night, falling 69-47 in the season's final road contest. The Greyhounds built an early lead but eventually cooled to finish 27 percent from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hounds used a quick start to jump out to a double-digit lead in the opening quarter. Despite leading-scorer Martha Burse sitting with two early fouls, UIndy broke off a 15-2 run to help built a 10-point advantage heading into the second. Sophomore Claire Carlton and senior Devin Ferguson both knocked down triples in the spurt.

The Knights would close the half in much different fashion, however. With help from some effective work on the offensive glass, Bellarmine scored nine straight at one point and finished the half on a 17-3 run to flip the score, 30-28, in its favor.

The Knights scored the first five points of the third quarter to further assert themselves. The Hounds stayed within 10 through three quarters, but Bellarmine opened the fourth with 13 unanswered points to pull away for good.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Ferguson led the Hounds with 13 points, marking the third time this season she finished with a team high in the category. She also added six rebounds and five assists.
- Sophomore Tristan Philpot finished 2-for-2 from the 3-point line. The rest of the Hounds combined to shot 3-for-20 from behind the arc.
- The Hounds shot 80 percent from the line but attempted 19 less free throws than the Knights.
- Five Greyhounds grabbed at least five rebounds.
- Burse had an uncharacteristic night offensively, finishing with 11 points on 3-for-17 shooting. She came into the game averaging 22 points per game.
