WESTFIELD, Ind. – For the second straight day, the UIndy softball team split a pair of region games at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind., Sunday. The Greyhounds (8-4) lost a one-run contest versus Saginaw Valley, 4-3, before downing Ferris State in the capper, 3-1.

Saginaw Valley 4, UIndy 3
With both team's receiving votes in the latest Division II coaches poll, the Hounds got on the board first with a two-spot in the bottom of the second. Senior
Julia Liceaga plated
Brooke Riess with a single, and freshman
Brooke Montgomery followed with an RBI double.
Â
The Cardinals answered right back with three in the top of the third. UIndy starter
Lauren Honkomp retired the first two batters before an error extended the inning. SVSU took advantage with three straight hits, including a triple.
Â
Saginaw Valley tacked on an insurance run in the fifth, one that came in handy after another RBI single from Liceaga in the sixth.
Â
Honkomp (3-2) took the loss despite going the distance and striking out seven.
Â
UIndy 3, Ferris State 1
With the score tied 0-0 through two innings, the Hounds plated all the runs they would need in the top of the third. UIndy delivered three hits in the frame, including a two-run double by
Sydnie Foster and an RBI single by Montgomery.
Â
The Bulldogs threatened in the fifth, scoring a run and later putting two on with two out. UIndy then relieved starter
Katelyn Fisher with Honkomp, who struck out the next batter to end the inning.
Â
Honkomp would finish the game and earn her first save of the season. Fisher, meanwhile, earned her first decision of the year and first win as a Greyhound.
Â
UIndy plays two more at Grand Park tomorrow, once again taking on Ferris State and then facing Ohio Dominican at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
