Softball takes down #11 Lee in Friday split

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UIndy softball team (3-1) continued play at the annual Charger Chillout in Huntsville, Ala., splitting a play of decisions Friday. The action was highlighted by a 5-2 win versus 11th-ranked Lee University in game one.

UIndy 5, Lee 2
Freshman Haylie Foster made quite an impression both in the circle and in the batter's box in the opener. The Plainfield, Ind., native picked up the complete-game win in her collegiate pitching debut, while also going 3 for 3 with three RBIs at the plate.

Freshman Brooke Montgomery earned a pair of singles, while sophomore Cathy Skaggs scored twice.

Delta State 10, UIndy 1 (5 inn.)
The Greyhounds' season-opening win streak was stopped at three as Delta State put up 10 runs in a five-inning win in Friday's second game. The Lady Statemen chased starter Lauren Honkomp after 1 2/3 innings, scoring four runs on five hits and a walk versus the sophomore hurler.

DSU would hang three more on the board in both the fourth and fifth.

The Hounds' lone run came in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Taylor Podschweit.

The Greyhounds were originally scheduled to play six games at the event, but inclement weather forced the cancellation of Saturday's games.

The Hounds are back at it next weekend at the Music City Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., starting with a meeting against Lincoln Memorial Saturday, Feb. 17.
