LAS VEGAS - The No. 11 UIndy men's tennis team won its second match of spring break on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Western New Mexico in quick fashion by a 9-0 score. The Mustangs of WNM are currently ranked fifth in the South Central region.Â
The doubles took care of business once again at the Darling Tennis Center. The No. 2 tandem of
Magnus Mueller and
Christoph Drechsler remained unblemished in the spring and finished first among the pairings, winning 8-3 over Western New Mexico's Niko Barr and Zachary Grabovic.
Nils Hoffacker and
Dario Huber made quick work of Jose Mario Neto and David Valles, winning 8-1 as the second group to conclude its match. The Hounds' No. 1 duo of
Renato Lima and
Andrea Morlet sunk their Mustangs counterparts, Liam Fraboulet and Vladimir Gnilozubov, 8-5.
Unlike yesterday's pair of three-setters, UIndy won in straight sets on Tuesday in singles competition. Top-20 singles player Drechsler outsted Valles quickly, winning 6-1, 6-0, before 45th-ranked Huber followed with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Barr.Â
Kostadinov trounced Mario Neto by the scores of 6-2, 6-1 in No. 6 singles, while No. 2 Lima needed extra points in the first set of his match against Gnilozubov, but overcame and won 7-5, 6-3. Finishing just ahead of Lima was No. 45 Mueller, who defeated Grabovic 7-5, 7-5.
Last to finish was Hoffacker, who concluded the day with a 7-6, 6-0 win over Fraboulet in a battle of No. 1 players.
UIndy is now midway through spring break, and will compete tomorrow at 5 p.m. ET against No. 15 Hawai'i at Hilo.Â
