MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The No. 19 UIndy men's lacrosse team traveled to North Carolina this Spring Break week for a top-20 match-up with the University of Mount Olive Wednesday. The 12th-ranked Trojans came away with an 8-6 win over the Greyhounds, snapping UIndy's three-game win streak.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
In their first mid-week game of the season, the Hounds made the 700-mile trek to face the fourth-best scoring defense in Division II. The host Trojans (6-2) were far from generous once again, surrendering just six goals – right at their average for the season.
Â
The Greyhounds managed to get off 44 shots, including 22 on goal, but OMU keeper Will Urban was as solid as they come. The senior racked up 16 saves on the game, good for an impressive .727 save percentage.
Â
Nevertheless, the Hounds matched Mount Olive goal-for-goal in the second half, but the Trojans earned a two-score lead early in the second quarter that ultimately held. After UIndy cut the deficit to one on a
Matt Schoeneck goal with 7:43 to go, UMO added one last tally a minute later and held on for the win.
Â
Junior
Parker Kump led UIndy in goals for the fourth straight game, scoring twice on seven shots and adding an assist. Senior
Sam Horning amassed a goal, three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
