UIndy completes perfect Spring Break trip with two wins Wednesday

CLERMONT, Fla. – With its freshly-minted No. 16 ranking in tow, the UIndy softball team (18-4) wrapped up its annual Spring Break trip with wins Division II wins against California (Pa.) and Edinboro Wednesday afternoon. The Greyhounds won all six contests at the PFX Spring Games in Clermont, Fla., this week, and now own an overall win streak of 11 games.

Sophomore Lauren Honkomp picked up another pitching win, upped her record to 6-2 on the season. She gave up just four hits and sprinkled in five walks in 6 2/3 innings. She started the game with six scoreless frames before being chased by an RBI triple in the seventh. Freshman Haylie Foster came on to get the final out and record her first collegiate save.
 
The Hounds took the lead in the in the second after a Foster single and a Cathy Skaggs walk set the table for Jessie Noone's RBI knock.
 
UIndy tacked on two more in the fifth when Sydnie Foster plated Noone with a single and Taylor Podschweit coaxed a bases-loaded walk.

The Hounds hung eight runs on the board in game two, including a big three-spot in the sixth inning of what was a just two-run game at the time.  Freshman Kamrie Foster had the timely hit, as her pinch-hit, two-run single with two outs in the sixth gave the Hounds welcomed breathing room late in the ballgame.
 
Taylor Danielson roped a pair of RBI doubles earlier in the contest, while Podschweit, Haylie Foster and Shannon Schuetz also added two-baggers.
 
Haylie Foster made it six wins in six decisions with 6 2/3 innings of work in the circle, fanning seven and walking two. Katelyn Fisher entered with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh to retire the lone batter she faced and notch the save.
 
The Hounds return to conference play this weekend with a doubleheader at McKendree University Saturday, March 17 and a twin bill at Missouri-St. Louis Sunday, March 18.
