LEBANON, Ill. – The No. 16 UIndy softball team (19-5, 3-1 GLVC) returned to conference play this weekend, splitting a doubleheader at McKendree (16-7, 2-2) Saturday afternoon. After earning a 3-1 win in the opener, The Greyhounds fell 8-1 to end a lengthy 12-game winning streak.
GAME 1
The Greyhounds touched the Bearcats for three runs in the top of the fourth. Freshmen
Haylie Foster and
Taylor Danielson started the scoring with back-to-back doubles to lead off the frame, followed by an RBI single from senior
Jessie Noone and then an unearned run.
Â
The Hounds held that three-run advantage until the Bearcats finally got something going in the sixth. Freshman starter
Lauren Honkomp had tossed five scoreless until McKendree started the bottom of the sixth with three consecutive hits, with freshman Miranda Gajewski breaking the seal with an RBI double.
Â
Later in the seventh, the Bearcats loaded the bases with two outs, putting the potential game-winning run in scoring position, but Foster came on to get the final out and earn her second save of the year.

GAME 2
McKendree generated eight runs in the capper to end the Hounds' hot streak.
Cathy Skaggs' fourth-inning double knotted the game at 1-1, but the host Bearcats answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth before piling on five more in the fifth.
Â
Foster got the start in game two and took the brunt of the damage, giving up four earned runs – five in all – in 4 1/3 innings. The result snapped an individual streak for the Plainfield, Ind., native, as she had won her first six decisions as a collegian.
UIndy makes the short trek across the Mississippi to face rival Missouri-St. Louis for another GLVC twin bill tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
