INDIANAPOLIS - It was a misty day at Greyhound Park on Saturday afternoon, but timely hitting played a major factor once again in the No. 9 UIndy Baseball team's 6-5 win over Tiffin.
Tyler Hosto pitched 6.2 innings to earn his third win of the season, while
Michael Schalasky notched his first career save with the two-inning performance.
The Hounds have now won their last 12 games and are 14-2 so far in 2018. It is the sixth series win of the season.
The Greyhounds were the first to score on Saturday, plating a run in the second inning. After
Nick Miller doubled off the bottom of the right-field fence,
Hunter Waning singled up the middle to bring home the redshirt junior.
After Tiffin scored in its half of the third inning to tie the game at one apiece,
Storm Joop led off the Hounds' half with a bomb to left field. Pinch-hitter
Aaron Snyder added another run for the home team, singling home
Macy Holdsworth.
With runners on the corners and two outs in the fifth inning, Joop pulled off a steal of home after
Dylan Jones successfuly swiped second base on a delayed call. Joop then scored on a wild pitch in the sixth inning to give the Hounds a 5-1 lead.
Hosto tried to get through seven innings for the first time this season, but loaded the bases with two outs in the top of the frame, forcing a pitching change. The Dragons scored three runs off the first pitch from
Christian Beard to get back within one.
Adam Vasil drilled a homer in the eighth to give UIndy a much-needed insurance run, as Schalasky surrendered three hits and a run in the ninth before striking out the final batter to close out the 6-5 win.
Vasil was the lone Greyhound with a multi-hit game, while he and Joop each scored twice on the day. Joop also reached base a team-high three times, adding a pair of walks with his homer.
UIndy goes for the sweep of Tiffin tomorrow afternoon at Greyhound Park. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
