INDIANAPOLIS - For the first time since February 23, the UIndy baseball team (14-3) was not the winning team on the scoreboard after the final out was recorded. The Greyhounds dropped an 8-4 decision on Sunday at Greyhound Park to the Tiffin Dragons (6-8), who avoided the sweep. The Hounds had a series-high 11 hits in the loss.Â
The Hounds tallied a run in the bottom of the first, as a
Dylan Jones knock chased home
Storm Joop, who reached on a walk.
Reid Werner cruised through the first 2.2 innings, allowing only a single to lead off the game before Tiffin scored four runs with two outs in the third inning.Â
The offense stalled until the sixth when
Joe Kenney singled to left field to open the frame. Kenney scored when
Aaron Snyder reached on a fielder's choice, and then
Hunter Waning came around to score Joop found an opening on the left side to cut the deficit to one.Â
The Dragons got a run back in the seventh and then tacked on three more in the ninth to lead 8-3 heading into the final Greyhound at-bat.
Kyle Orloff was forced home when Waning walked with one out in the ninth, but that was it for the Hounds, dropping their first contest in 12 games.Â
Waning reached base a team-high four times, while Joop had two hits and a free pass. Jones has now drove in a run in six of the past eight games.Â
UIndy begins GLVC play next weekend in Romeoville, Ill. for a four-game set at Lewis. The Flyers are 6-9 on the season after salvaging a win in the series finale against Grand Valley State.Â
