Sprinkle tosses four-hitter as Greyhounds split at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The UIndy baseball team (15-4) split with Lewis on Friday afternoon to kick off GLVC play for the 2018 season. Jake Sprinkle tossed a complete-game gem in game one as the Greyhounds scored four runs, but the Flyers plated seven in game two to run past the visitors.

UIndy 4, Lewis 1
Sprinkle's four-hitter is the first complete game of the season for the junior, as he scattered five hits and walked four Flyers. The righty struck out four opposing batters in the win.

After threatening in the first, the Hounds finally pushed across a run in the second when Tyler Phillips plated Joe Kenney, who led off the frame with a single. Kenney scored again in the fourth when Hunter Waning found grass for a base knock, driving in the lead-off double.

Phillips led off the seventh with a single before moving into scoring position from a sacrifice bunt by Devon Hensley. Macy Holdsworth then singled two batters later to give the Hounds a 3-0 lead. Sprinkle allowed his only run of the game in the bottom half of the seventh, but Kyle Orloff drove home Storm Joop with a single to get the run back.

The Hounds had 11 hits as a team and had at least one baserunner in six innings.

Lewis 7, UIndy 0
The nightcap proved to be all Flyers from the first inning. Lewis scored three runs off Greyhound starter Tyler Hosto in the opening frame, two unearned.

The Hounds reached base each of the final six innings, but failed to push across any runs. Hosto pitched each of the six innings, scattering seven hits while striking out two. The Flyers added four runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.

Kenney and Hunter Waning reached base to begin the seventh for UIndy, but Lewis starter Blake Marks completed the shutout soon after for the 7-0 Greyhound loss.

Joop and Kenney each had two hits for the Hounds, totaling for nearly all of the team's hits. The Greyhounds left seven on base in the loss.

Due to weather, UIndy and Lewis will finish the four-game set on Sunday in Romeoville, Ill. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. Stay tuned for any updates.
