INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 11 UIndy men's tennis team (14-2) defeated the 16th-ranked Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Wednesday evening, 7-2. The Hounds won two of the three doubles matches before earning five wins in singles.Â
Renato Lima and
Andrea Morlet entered the match ranked 29th in Division II, and certainly looked like it in their 8-5 win over SBU's 41st-ranked Torben Semrau and Raul Caballero in No. 1 doubles.
Nils Hoffacker and
Dario Huber also earned a win in No. 3 doubles to give UIndy a 2-1 lead, before No. 2 doubles duo
Magnus Mueller and
Christoph Drechsler dropped their first contest of the spring, 9-7.Â
The singles matches featured four ranked players, two from each side of the net. After taking a 6-1 first-set win, No. 41 Hoffacker dropped the final two to drop a tightly-contested battle with No. 10 Sherif Abohabaga. Hoffacker finished just after Huber won in straight sets at No. 3 singles.
Lima won in three sets over 73rd-ranked Caballero, earning the victory with a 7-5 finish in the third. No. 62 Mueller and Drechsler followed, both overcoming their doubles loss, to each win easily in straight sets. The win for Mueller was his 50th career victory as a singles player.
Matej Kostadinov capped off the 7-2 victory with a win in No. 6 singles, defeating Gyorgy Agoston in three sets.Â
The Hounds host McKendree on Saturday at the UIndy Tennis Center for the first GLVC match of the spring. It is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
