INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's lacrosse team (7-4) won its third game in a row with a 14-6 victory against visiting Lindenwood late Tuesday afternoon. The Greyhounds (7-4) used a productive second half to pull away from the Lions (5-5), who came into the day receiving votes in the latest USILA Division II poll.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
With the score knotted at 5-5 at the half, the Hounds flipped the switch in the third quarter, ripping off seven unanswered goal in the game-changing period. In fact, UIndy went on to amass nine consecutive goals while holding the Lions scoreless for 38-plus minutes of play spanning the third and fourth quarters.
Â
"It was just more of a team effort in the second half," said Head Coach
Greg Stocks. "We got some real good offensive possessions and played real tough on the defensive end.
Â
"We jumped out of the gate early (in the third quarter) and maybe knocked Lindenwood back a little bit, and we were able to take control of the game."
Â
UIndy spread the wealth offensively, as nine Greyhounds scored as least once. Junior
Parker Kump led all scorers with three goals and six points. Freshman
Matt Schoeneck added two goals and two assists.
Â
The Hounds once again dominated on the face-off, as
Dominic Guarino (15 for 18) and
Robbie Berardi (6 for 6) allowed the Lions just three face-off wins all day.
Â
Senior
Max Groves compiled four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers, while senior
Jake Wittmeyer caused three turnovers and scooped two ground balls.
Â
