WESTFIELD, Ind. - The UIndy baseball team (18-13) snapped its nine-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon at Grand Park, earning a split over No. 15 Ohio Dominican with a win in the finale.Â
ODU 11, UIndy 2
The Hounds struck first with a two-run shot by
Dylan Jones in the opening frame, but the Panthers singled four times and were hit twice by a
Jake Sprinkle pitch before scoring four runs and never looking back. The junior righty surrendered another two runs in the third inning before exiting prior to the fourth.Â
The Panthers tagged relievers
Michael Schalasky and
Christian Beard for five runs the final four innings, as the Greyhound offense went cold on the overcast Sunday. A single by
Trey Smith in the fifth inning was the first hit for the Hounds since their three-knock first, and proved to be the final hit of the game for the team.Â
UIndy 6, ODU 5
Tyler Hosto retired the first five Panthers in game two before a two-out walk would lead to a three-run second inning for Ohio Dominican. The Greyhounds threatened in the third inning before scoring four times in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead. After
Nick Miller scored when
Adam Vasil reached on an error,
Joe Kenney,
John Carpinelli, and
Hunter Waning singled each other home.Â
The Panthers answered back with a two-run fifth frame, but that failed to deter the Hounds.
Trey Smith singled home Vasil, who doubles to lead off the inning, and then Kenney scored after reaching base on a free pass three batters earlier for a 6-5 Greyhound advantage.Â
After
Dylan Stutsman entered with two outs in the fifth inning, the senior retired seven of the eight Panthers he faced to seal the first win in 21 days for UIndy.Â
The Hounds posted 10 hits in the nightcap after just four in the opener, with Carpinelli, Vasil, and Waning recording a pair of knocks.Â
As of now, the Hounds are scheduled to host Purdue-Northwest on Tuesday from Greyhound Park beginning at 1 p.m.
