LIBERTY, Mo. – The No. 20 UIndy softball team (34-14, 16-8 GLVC) lost both ends of a doubleheader at William Jewell (25-19, 12-12) Sunday afternoon. The Greyhounds came up on the short end of a 1-0 final in game one before falling just shy of a successful comeback attempt in the 9-7 capper.

GAME 1 | WJC 1, UIndy 0
Jewell starter Anna Biondo (11-9) pitched a gem, holding the Hounds to four hits while walking zero in the complete-game shutout.
The lone game of the run came on a fielder's choice groundout in the third.
Â
Sophomore
Lauren Honkomp was the tough-luck loser (14-7). She held the host Cardinals to one run, scattering seven hits and three walks while striking out two in six innings.
Â
Cathy Skaggs had the Hounds' only extra-base hit with a second-inning double.
Brooke Montgomery,
Taylor Danielson, and
Sydnie Foster each managed a single.

GAME 2 | WJC 9, UIndy 7
Trouble started early for the Hounds in game two, as the Cardinals hung five runs on the board in the first inning to chase starter
Halie Waters. Jewell followed with two more runs in the third and another in the fourth to jump out to an 8-0 advantage.
Â
The Hounds did not go quietly, however, as they battled back to get the deficit all the way down to two. After plating three in the fifth, UIndy made a serious threat in the top of the seventh. The Hounds smashed a pair of two-run bombs in the rally, as both
Taylor Podschweit and Skaggs went yard. But after the bases cleared a second time, Jewell got the last two outs to finally end the comeback attempt.
Â
Podschweit finished 2 for 4 with four RBIs, giving her 10 ribbies on the weekend. Freshman
Gianni Iannantone also had two hits, while Danielson and Skaggs each added a walk.
