Hounds handle Missouri-St. Louis in regional opener

GREENWOOD, Ind. - It was tight in the beginning as doubles began, but it didn't take long before the No. 10 UIndy men's tennis team would finish Missouri-St. Louis off in the first round of the 2018 Midwest Regional, hosted by the top-seeded Greyhounds. After sweeping doubles, Dario Huber and Matej Kostadinov won in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively, to seal the win at Center Grove High School.

Nils Hoffacker and Huber finished first among doubles with a victory, handling their No. 3 counterparts, 8-5. Andrea Morlet and Renato Lima won 8-5 in the top spot, while Magnus Mueller and Christoph Drechsler won the final four sets at No. 2 to earn the 8-5 victory. It was the 17th straight victory for Hoffacker and Huber, while Mueller and Drechsler have now won nine in a row.

Huber kicked off the singles wins for the Hounds with a decisive straight-set triumph for his 25th victory of the season. Matej Kostadinov followed soon after at No. 6, winning 6-1, 6-3.

The next singles win for Hoffacker will be a new single-season record for UIndy, as he sits at 28 victories this season. Mueller and Drechsler, along with Hoffacker, left unfinished.

The Greyhounds will play Wayne State tomorrow morning beginning at 11 a.m. at Center Grove in Greenwood. The winner will advance to Surprise, Ariz. for the remainder of the NCAA Championship.
