Hounds celebrate Senior Day with conference win

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's lacrosse team (6-4, 4-1 GLVC) hosted GLVC-foe Maryville University (5-10, 2-3) Saturday afternoon, defeating the Saints by a decisive 15-4 final score. Prior to the first whistle, the program honored senior student-athletes Max Groves, Dominic Guarino, Tanner Gurin, Sam Horning, Kenny Keyes, Jimmy Smith and Jake Wittmeyer.

"I think this senior class has had a huge impact on the team," said Head Coach Greg Stocks. "Just watching here on Senior Day and seeing how much they all contributed today, really shows how much they mean to the team and to the program."

The Greyhounds improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in GLVC play. They sit in second place in the league standings, trailing Young Harris by just one game in the loss column. UIndy has already wrapped up its conference schedule, while Young Harris has two GLVC road contests remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After giving up the game's first goal, the Hounds scored four unanswered to take control. Horning got the Hounds on the board before going on to record his first hat trick of the season and also adding three assists.

UIndy would score five in the first quarter, four in the second and five more in the third to keep the pressure on the young Saints. Meanwhile, the UIndy defense clamped down, limiting Maryville to just six shots on goal the entire game.

Guarino was stellar on face-offs, winning 16 of 19 while recording nine ground balls. He now sports a robust .714 face-off percentage on the season.

Freshman Austin Barnett got the win in goal, limiting the Saints to four goals in three quarters. Gurin handled keeper duties in the fourth, recording one save and allowing zero goals in the final 15 minutes.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Keyes racked up a career-high seven ground balls on Senior Day.
- Three Hounds were credited with two caused turnovers, including seniors Wittmeyer and Groves.
- Parker Johnson led all players with five goals to set a new career high.
- Junior middie Noah Grove scored late in the third quarter, good for his first collegiate goal. It was a good one too. See...
