Hounds earn pair of victories on final day in South Carolina

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The UIndy volleyball team (3-1) finished its first weekend of action with a pair of victories at Coker College on Saturday afternoon. The Greyhounds earned a four-set win against Emmanuel College before sweeping the host Cobras.

The Hounds attacked at a consistently efficient rate all match, with their hitting percentage ranging from .294 to .333. The sophomore, who set a program record last night with 22 kills in the sweep of Converse, converted eight kills in the opening set.

After the Lions snagged a victory in the third frame, the Hounds jumped to a 6-3 lead after back-to-back kills by Julia Kruzan. Emmanuel rattled off seven consecutive points to take a lead at 11-10, but Furlong recorded three kills in the Hounds' six-point run to grab the late advantage. Alyssa Spears fed Taylor Jacquay for her 11th kill to close to contest for the Greyhounds' victory.

HOUND BYTES
Head coach Jason Reed: "I'm proud of how we bounced back today after a close loss to Anderson yesterday. We showed some resolves this morning against a really strong Emmanuel group who I think will win a lot of matches this season.

"We're learning our system still and we're still improving. I have high expectations for this group and we will need to continue to get better the rest of the way. We're all hungry to get back to work and return home for some great competition next weekend at the UIndy Invitational."

UP NEXT
The Hounds welcome seven teams to Ruth Lilly Fitness Center and Nicoson Hall next weekend, with each playing four matches. UIndy will kick off its schedule with No. 17 Winona State at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
