UIndy hosts Lincoln in annual Homecoming game Saturday

Lincoln Blue Tigers (2-2, 1-0) at 22 UIndy Greyhounds (2-1, 1-0)
Saturday, Sept. 29, 6 p.m. ET, Key Stadium

ON TAP
The 22nd-ranked Greyhounds host Lincoln University for the annual Homecoming Game Saturday night at the Key.

HAPPY HOMECOMING
UIndy fans and alumni have been treated to a ton of success in recent Homecoming games. The Hounds have won seven consecutive Homecoming dates and 11 of their last 12. UIndy's lone loss in that span came in 2010 versus Northwood. The Hounds last hosted Lincoln on Homecoming in 2014 and went on to defeat the Blue Tigers, 52-14.

ABOUT LINCOLN
The Blue Tigers won their first GLVC game in four years last Saturday, downing visiting Southwest Baptist, 28-13, at Dwight T. Reed Stadium. The result snapped Lincoln's 29-game losing streak in conference play. Prior to the streak, LU's last GLVC win came at home versus Quincy on Sept. 20, 2014. It has yet to win a league game on the road since joining the GLVC as an associate member in 2014 – a span of 15 games.

Under the guidance of second-year head man Steven Smith, the Blue Tigers enter the weekend with an even 2-2 mark, their best start to a season since 1980. They are 2-0 versus Division II competition, defeating Lane College in the opener and Southwest Baptist last weekend. Meanwhile, their losses came against DI Missouri State and DIII Wisconsin-Oshkosh.

The Tigers lead the GLVC and rank ninth in Division II in time of possession, averaging a lofty 34:39 per game. Freshman quarterback Henry Ogala is putting up 163 passing yards per game while sporting a 62-percent completion percentage. Fellow-rookie Hosea Franklin is the team's leading rusher at 54 yards per game and 4.3 per carry.

HOUNDS vs. BLUE TIGERS
The relatively-short series between UIndy and Lincoln has been quite one-sided to date, with the Greyhounds winning all five previous match-ups by an average final score of 43-12.

Last season, the Hounds held the Tigers to just 163 total yards, including a UIndy-opponent season-low 24 yards on the ground, in a 45-0 shutout win. The Hounds scored 21 points in the second quarter for the second straight season versus Lincoln. Al McKeller tallied two rushing touchdowns on the day, while Jake Purichia threw for a pair and ran for a third.

LAST TIME OUT
The Hounds opened conference play with lopsided 41-14 against visiting William Jewell last Saturday. UIndy received a combined five touchdowns from Malik Higgins and Al McKeller, while the Greyhound pass rush produced a jaw-dropping 12 sacks.

PRESSURE POINTS
The Hounds' dozen sacks versus Jewell were good for the second-highest single-game sack total by a GLVC team since the league began sponsoring football in 2012. Seven Hounds were credited with at least a half sack, including Indy native Alec Patch, who finished the day with a career-high four QB sacks alone.

Patch's sack total matched the four that teammate Jacob Schmatz amassed versus Missouri S&T last season. Both sit atop the UIndy list for most sacks in a game since 2002 – first season single-game sack info is available.

Other Greyhounds that got in on the pass-rush fun were Schmatz (2.0 sacks), Lucas Rice (1.5), Rondall Weathers (1.5), Erik Hart (1.5), Cole Sigmund (1.0) and Bryce Edwards (0.5).

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Senior Malik Higgins was voted the GLVC Offensive Player of the Week after racking up seven receptions for 119 yards and a career-high tying three touchdowns versus Jewell. It marked the first career GLVC weekly award for the veteran wideout. The Evansville, Ind., native now ranks fourth in the UIndy annals with 24 career receiving TDs.

FRESH KICKS
Senior kicker Jacob LaFree connected on his first career field goal last week, hitting a 35-yarder midway through the first quarter. He went on to score 11 points on the afternoon, as well as handling the team's only two punts, averaging 35.5 yards per.

This season LaFree took over the role of 2017 GLVC Special Teams Player of the Year Brad Schickel, who finished his career not only as one of the program's best punters but also as UIndy's all-time leader in field goal percentage (.833).

POLL POSITION
The Hounds climbed three spots in this week's AFCA Division II Coaches Poll. The Hounds remain the lone GLVC team in the poll. However, they are one of nine Super Region 3 teams in the top 25, including a pair of top-fve teams in Grand Valley State (No. 3) and Ferris State (4).

UIndy's inclusion this week increased its own program record of consecutive weeks in the coaches poll to 17, dating back to the 2017 week-one edition.
