INDIANAPOLIS- Eleven UIndy wrestlers found themselves in the top eight of Sunday's Greyhound Open in the ARC, while another three unattached wrestlers also placed at the event.
Sophomore
Nick Brady highlighted the UIndy finishers, taking second place at 125. Brady opened his day with a tech fall, 16-0 over Matt Malavsky of SIUE in the bracket quarterfinal, and followed with an 8-1 decision over Purduej's Nate Cummings to earn a spot in the final. Brady took his first loss of the day, 10-5 to Indiana's Elijah Oliver to finish second.
Redshirt sophomore
Matt McKinney made his return to the mat at 141, going 3-1 on the day en route to a third-place finish. McKinney opened his tournament with a 7-1 win over Jonathan Moran of Indiana, before falling to the consolation side of the bracket with a loss to Saul Ervin of SIUE in the semifinals. The Warren Central product rebounded with a 3-1 decision over Maryville's Tristan Barr to take a spot in the third place match, where he defeated Moran for the second time on the day, 8-2.
Both freshman
Blaze Lowery (157) and redshirt senior
Tyler Scott (197) took fourth in their brackets, going 4-2 and 1-2 respectively on the day. A trio of Greyhounds placed fifth on the day, including
Tylan Tucker (133),
Trace Manspeaker (149) and
Jack Michel (184).
Jack Williams took 6th at 285, while
Clay Jones also came in 6th at 157.
Wrestling unattached,
Dawson Combest finished in the runner-up spot at 157 behind a 2-1 day, while
Jack Eiteljorge finished fifth at 165 and
Terry Vette was eighth at 133.
The Greyhounds jump back into dual action Thursday, heading back to Kenosha, Wisc., for a dual at Wisconsin-Parkside. Action versus the Rangers starts at 8 p.m. EST.
