Gouard passes Good as Greyhounds dig by Miners

ROLLA, Mo. – UIndy men's basketball head coach Stan Gouard made history on Monday evening with the Greyhounds' 75-74 win over Missouri S&T, stepping into sole possession of second place in program history with 196 career wins. The victory improves UIndy to 11-5 this season, with a 4-2 record inside GLVC play.

The Hounds held an eight-point lead at the break before holding off the Miner attack. UIndy shot just 28.6 percent from 3-point range, but attempted 21 more free throws to control the charity stripe. Marcus Latham reached the free throw line 17 times in the win, finishing with a game-high 18 points along with CJ Hardaway.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UIndy worked around poor shooting from beyond the arc in the first half, scoring 21 points inside the paint and controlling the glass. The Greyhounds scored eight points in the final 90 seconds of the half, including a pair of 3-pointers from Hardaway and Jimmy King, who banked one in as the buzzer sounded.

The Hounds led for nearly the entirety of the second half, getting 13 points alone from Latham in the final 20 minutes. A 3-pointer from Jesse Kempson with 3:41 remaining extended the lead back to eight, but the Miners fought back until free throws ended the host rally.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Gouard passed Harry Good on the all-time wins list on Monday, who coached the Greyhounds from 1928-43 and won 195 games. More than 11 months ago at Missouri S&T, Eric Davidson surpassed 1,000 career points to become the 40th member of the historic milestone club.

Latham secured a new career-high as a Hound in the victory, scoring 18 points in 32 minutes. The junior drew his first start since Wilberforce on November 23.

King finished Monday night with 14 points, the junior's highest total since December 17 against Pittsburg State in Las Vegas. The Indianapolis native also grabbed five rebounds in the win to mark the third time in four contests the point guard has done so.

Hardaway and Kempson combined for 34 points off the bench for UIndy, shooting 11-for-13 from the field. Kempson is now just 21 rebounds from totaling 500 career boards as a Hound.

UP NEXT
The Greyhounds will host Rockhurst this Thursday at Nicoson Hall for a 7:30 p.m. tip. UIndy defeated the Hawks, 76-69, last season in Kansas City, Mo.
