Latham scores 20, King flirts with triple-double in Hounds' romp of Cardinals

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men's basketball (13-5, 6-2 GLVC) cruised by William Jewell College (9-12, 3-6 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon inside Nicoson Hall by a score of 95-67 after shooting 52 percent from the field and grabbing 52 rebounds.

Marcus Latham led the Hounds with 20 points, while Jesse Kempson tallied his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals led early, but the Greyhounds would hold the advantage the final 30 minutes to ease to the victory. UIndy scored a massive 26 points inside the paint in the opening half with drives from Kempson and Hardaway to open up the outside shooting from Trevor Lakes, who drilled a pair of 3-pointers in the first 20 minutes.

UIndy grabbed another 15 defensive rebounds in the second half, as well as four on the offensive glass that led to 15 second-chance points. A trey-ball from Jordache Mavunga at the 11:08 mark of the second half stretched the Greyhound lead to a game-high 31. Both Hardaway and Lakes scored nine points in the second half, finishing with 17 and 15, respectively.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Jimmy King flirted with a triple-double against the Cardinals, grabbing 10 boards and dishing out nine assists to go along with six points. The junior also recorded two steals in the win.

Kempson's 12 points and 13 rebounds marks the fourth double-double of the season for the senior, and the 11th of his career. The Indianapolis native is now just three boards from 500 career rebounds.

Latham dropped a UIndy career-best 20 points on Saturday, shooting nine-of-14 from the field. The Alton, Ill. native has now scored at least 18 in each of the past three contests.

Miles Wayer and Lakes combined to shoot six-of-12 from 3-point range in the win, while Jaylin Chinn, Hardaway, Latham, and Jordache Mavunga each sunk one.

As a team, UIndy recorded 40 defensive rebounds, the most since November 9 against Northwood. Prior to the season opener, it was at least 20 years since the Hounds secured as many as 39 boards, and 10 years since the team grabbed 37.

UP NEXT
The Hounds hit the road for a pair of GLVC contests next weekend against McKendree and Illinois Springfield. UIndy tips off at McKendree on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
